As an industry leader in their field, my client unites several globally successful brands under its roof and has increased its market share consistently over the last 30 years.
Their success has led to the creation of an AI department that currently consists of more than 350 experts in areas like Data Science, Data Engineering and Cloud Engineering, solving problems around topics like smart manufacturing (IIoT), logistical optimisation and data integration across various clouds and systems.
Expanding their Engineering unit, they now have an open vacancy for a Senior Data Engineer (m/f/d) with a special interest in Streaming and cloud based Data Lakehouse structures.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Data Engineer you are part of a team of 20 experts providing stakeholders across all business units with reliable and safe access to data via the established data lakehouse.
Evaluating its structure and processes to identify opportunities for improvements (especially when it comes to scalability and data security) and realising them, is a crucial task for the Senior Data Engineer.
That includes the architectural planning and design of data layers, access points and products (e.g. allowing for automated analysis and reports), as well as the development and implementation of such solutions and mechanisms as the team is responsible for and thus involved in every stage of the development cycle.
The Senior Data Engineer also takes on the role of mentor to other staff members, supporting them with advice and hands-on help when needed.
You lead and engage in technical discussions, and also use them as an opportunity to generate new ideas for future projects and topics.
Skills & Experience
- At least 5 years of professional experience as a hands-on developer, including expertise in developing and implementing distributed systems and features
- Profound expertise with Python
(Java skills are an alternative but do require the willingness to pick up Python and eventually switch languages) - Professional experience with Streaming and related tools such as Kafka, Eventhub, Confluent or Flink, as well as Microservices (Kubernetes in particular)
- Practice with Cloud technologies would be beneficial (ideally Azure but other cloud solutions are ok, too.)
- Good communicational skills across all levels and areas (including non-technical staff)
- Fluency in English; German is not required
